The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) has suspended Ahmed Abdelwahed for Presence/Use of Prohibited Substance (Meldonium) (Article 2.1 and Article 2.2) which is a violation of the World Athletics Anti-Doping Rules.
The 26 year-old who is the reigning European Championship steeplechase silver medalist has been suspended after testing positive for meldonium by the AIU.
The endurance-boosting heart medication has been banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency since 2016.
Abdelwahed’s case was announced three weeks after he finished second in the 3,000m steeplechase at the European track championships in Munich, Germany.
The AIU has not specified when Abdelwahed tested positive. He finished in 14th place at the Tokyo Olympics.
