Kenya’s Erick Kimutai Kering won the second edition of the Gran Canaria Maspalomas Marathon held on Sunday (2) in Maspalomas, Spain.
Kering who was the fastest athlete on paper with a time of 2:13.59 that he got at the 2018 Copenhagen Marathon, where he finished in fifth, took the honors in a time of 2:27.04 failing to lower the race course record of 2:18.00 that was set last year by his compatriot William Ruto Cheboi.

Kering was followed by Spain’s Cristian Fields who crossed the finish a distant later in 2:38.32 with his compatriot Enrique Alonso closing the podium three finishes in 2:43.27.
Norways Feder Myhre and Markus Espelien came home in fourth and fifth place in a time of 2:43.27 and 2:47.58 respectively.
The women’s race was won by Rebeca Ruiz with a time of 2:58.01 with Cristina Saturnino coming home in second in 3:01.31 and Sonia Prieto taking bronze in 3:04.06.
