World U20 800m champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi has been nominated by World Athletics for Male Rising Stars Award.
The form two students at Kosirai High school won the 800m title during the world under 20 championships that was held at the Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani.
Wanyonyi was recognized as the world under 20 leading time and Kenyan national record holder in the junior category in 800m
He will be joining other four junior athletes led USA’s Sean Burrell, the world under 20 400m hurdles record holder, compatriot Erriyon Knighton, the Olympic Games runner, world under 20 200m record holder and world under 18 800m best.
Others include world under 20 3,000m champion Tadese Worku, who also won silver in 5,000m at the world under 20 and the Ethiopian Senior 10km record holder. Finally is Sasha Zhoya, the French international who holds the world under 20 110m hurdles title, European under 20 110m hurdles and world under 20 110m record.
