Emily Chebet beat the Kenyan-born steeplechaser Winfred Mutile Yavi of Bahrain in one of the most entertaining race of the day at the Nairobi Cross Country Championships senior men’s 10km on Saturday (15) at the Kenya Prisons Service ground.
Chebet played a second fiddle to the 2018 Asian Games 3000m steeplechase champion in the last two of the five lap course but thereafter took charge of the race creating a gap that could not be closed to cut the tape in 32:13.2.
Yavi who had come to this event to test her endurance and speed was forced to settle in second spot in a time of 32:23.7.
Mercy Chepkorir closed the first three podium finishes in 33:03.8.
Anne Naasisho and Emilly Chepkorir finished in fourth and fifth place in 34:22.3 and 34:31.0 respectively.
