Eldoret City Marathon sets date to pay athletes

The race organizers of the Eldoret City Marathon will finally be rewarding their athletes in two weeks after receiving anti-doping results.

The race director Moses Tanui announced on Friday (8) evening that the delayed payment was because they were awaiting anti-doping results to avoiding paying individuals who have violated the rules of the sport.

With such long wait, winners of Eldoret City Marathon that was held on June 6th 2021 will be awarded on October 22nd, 2021.

He said that the delay to strict fidelity to the race’s anti-doping policy that the race stands for.

“Many people are asking why they delay in giving the prize money for athletes it is because we need clean sports. Eldoret City marathon is taking all the precautions and measures that the athletes that we pay are clean,” explained Tanui.

He added that Eldoret City means clean sports revealing that he knows some athletes failed doping tests and they don’t want to be the ones supporting doping athletes.

“We stand for clean sports and as much as we had some delays, it was good for clean athletes to get their dues,” said former Vienna marathon winner adding that they know their sponsors have been waiting and we shall send invitations and welcome those who will be willing to sponsor next year event, with the date set to be announced on the same prize giving day.

The winners both male and female will receive Kshs 3.5 million. They will from number one to twenty.
