The race organisers of the Eldoret City Marathon have postponed this year’s edition due to availability of resources.
The race which was to be held this Sunday has been postponed indefinitely due to an availability of prize money as the title sponsor has not remitted the cash award to the accounts of the race oranisers.
The race director, Moses Tanui, who is also the double Boston marathon winner said, “we have postponed this year’s Eldoret City Marathon scheduled for October 01, 2023. This decision has not been made lightly and I want to express our profound regret that we find ourselves in”.
The Uasin Gishu County which has been the main title sponsor of this race for the last three editions pulled out this year and a new title sponsor Gulf Royal Society was unveiled in August but it seems they have failed to live up to their expectations of availing the funds.
“Following the withdrawal of the County government of Uasin Gishu as a title sponsor, we scouted for a new title sponsor and unfortunately there has been a delay in the completion of the transaction to deposit the prize money required to ensure that the race meets the high standards that both our athletes and fans rightfully expect, said Tanui.
