World 5km Record Holder Ejgayehu Taye lived to the race expectations as missed her World Record by three seconds at the 24th edition of the Cursa dels Nassos held on the eve of the New Year in Barcelona, Spain.
The 22 year-old Ethiopian who was very familiar with course as it’s the venue that she set the World Record mark, the African Record and Ethiopian National Record of 14:19, took the top honors in a time of 14:19 with the 2019 World 5000m bronze medallist, Konstanze Klosterhalfen from Germany crossing the finish line in second in a new personal best of 14:19.
The 2016 European 10,000m bronze medallist, Karoline Grøvdal from Norway closed the podium three finishes in a time of 15:06.
The reigning Iten 10km Road Race champion, Miriam Chebet who came to this race with the second fastest time on paper of 15:27, failed to live to her expectations as she came home a distant fourth in 15:36 with the 18 year-old, Agate Caune from Latvia who is also the 2021 European U20 Silver medallist finishing in fifth in 15:44.
