Former World U20 Champion, Edward Zakayo was pushed to the wall by two Ugandans at the at the Cardiff Cross Challenge, the first world Athletics Cross Country opener held on Sunday (16) in Cardiff, Wales.
Zakayo faced off a formidable opponent for cross country experts, Joel Ayeko and Rogers Kibet from Uganda. The former finished 10th place at the last edition of the World Cross Country Championships and the later has recorded top 3 finishers at some of the top cross country races in the world including at Hannut, Belgium and Elgoibar, Spain.
Zakayo waited patiently for the last 500m to take off from the two who could not respond at his kick to clinch the title with massive points.
Ayeko came home in second with mountain running specialty closing the podium.
