Former double World 5000m champion, Edris Muktar ran away with the men’s 11km title at the 23rd edition of the Giro di Castelbuono held on Sunday (30) in Castelbuono, Italy.
The 29 year-old who is also the 2019 World Cross Country champion overtook the 2018 Commonwealth Games 5000m bronze medallist, Edward Zakayo Pingua from Kenya in the final stages of the race to cut the tape first in a time of 33:56 with Pingua coming home in second place in 34:13.
The 2019 European U23 10,000m bronze medallist, Emile Cairess wrapped up the podium three finishes in a time of 34:14
The first Italian to cross the finish line was Daniele Meucci in fourth place with Burudi’s Jean-Marie Vianney Niyomukiza finishing in fifth in respective time of 34:58 and 35:57.
