Double World champion Edna Kiplagat has come out to express how she felt when Diana Kipyokei stole her joy of cutting the decorated tape at the finish line when she won the 2021 Boston Marathon title which she has since been stripped off.
The 41 year-old becomes the oldest athlete to win the Boston Marathon since its inception in 1897 which had been snatched from her by 24 seconds when Kipyokei cut the tape first a time of 2:24.45.
The 2017 World marathon silver medallist, wrote on her twitter handle on how she felf let down by Kipyokei’s undeserved win. “Very disappointed robbed my joy my smile my happiness and the beautiful decorated tape at the finish line,” said kiplagat.
Kipyokei was first suspended by Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) in October 14 and immediately the Boston Athletic Association, said it would strip her the Boston Marathon title should her case not be overturned on appeal and this was officially confirmed on Tuesday leading to her disqualification.

The mother (Kiplagat) of five, two of her own, two adopted from her sister who died of breast cancer in 2003, and one adopted from a neighbor who died in childbirth in 2013, becomes a four time World Marathon Majors winner with two from Boston Marathon (2017 and 2021).
Kipyokei who was making her debut at Boston was banned for six years after she tested positive for a metabolite of triamcinolone acetonide (a corticosteroid) and also had her title stripped for providing false information to anti-doping officials.
