Ethiopia’s Deribe Robi Melka took the top honors at the 31st edition of the Riga Marathon that was held on Sunday (15) in Riga, Latvia.
The 31 year-old who came to this race with a personal best of 2:05.58 that he got at the Eindhoven Marathon where he took the silver medal beat Michael Kunyunga from Kenya to take the honors in a time of 2:12.07 with the latter crossing the finish line in second place in 2:13.00.
Duncan Koech from Kenya closed the podium three finishes in 2:13.04.
Kenya’s Samwel Kiptanui Maswai and Hosea Kipkemboi finished in fourth and fifth place in 2:19.46 and 2:23.28 respectively.
The race course record of 2:08.51 that was set in 2019 by Andualem Shiferaw from Ethiopia remains standing.
In the women’s categories, Mekuria Aberu Zennebe from Ethiopia took the honors in a time of 2:30.53 with Uzbekistan’ s Marina Khmelevskaya coming home in second in 2:33.19 with Aynalem Teferi Kasahun from Ethiopia closing the podium three finishes in 2:38.21.
The race course record of 2:26.18 that was set in 2019 by Birke Debele from Ethiopia remained untouched.
