Kenya’s Daniel Simiu Ebenyo ran the fastest time ever in 3000m race at the Mondeville Indoor a World Athletics Indoor Tour Bronze level meeting that was held on Wednesday (9) in Mondeville, France.
The 10K Valencia Ibercaja winner took on World U20 bronze medallist, Melkeneh Azize from Ethiopia head to head as they took on each other at a breakneck pace passing the 1000m mark in 2:33 and the 2000m mark in 5:10.
The race was decided by an impressive sprint finish as Simiu went ahead to break the meeting record and setting a new personal best of 7:42.93 crashing the previous record of 7:44.87 that had been set by Norman setting ten years ago.
Azize was forced to settle in second place as he crossed the line two seconds later. Yasin Haji also from Ethiopia closed the first three podium finishes in 7:43.90.
Abraham Sime from Ethiopia and Hicham Akankam from Morocco finished in fourth and fifth place in 7:45.25 and 7:45.35 respectively
