In the absence of defending champion, a new champion will be announced when former world junior champion Cynthia Jerop makes her marathon debut at the 16th edition of Standard Chartered Marathon scheduled for October 28th in Nairobi.
Celestine Chepchirchir, who won last year’s title will be heading for Toronto marathon, giving an opportunity for other athletes to win the title.
The runner who won the inaugural Kaptagat Forest half marathon last month was optimistic that she will triumph despite top notch runners yearning to claim the title in the race that has attracts elite runners.
“My target is to win Standard chartered marathon after running in many half marathons across the world. My desire to break the jinx,” said the reigning Hannover half marathon champion.
The 2011 East Africa champion went ahead to win the Chemususu Dam 10km road race held a week after Kaptagat to stamp her authority in the road running career.
“My preparations are on top gear to ensure my success in Nairobi. I have been training for this race for long and this will be my eye opener in road running,” added Jerop who finished 6th at the Berlin half marathon.
