The 2022 Vienna City Marathon winners Cosmas Muteti and Vibian Chepkirui met the Austria’s President Alexander Van der Bellen who was also the official starter of the 39th edition of the Vienna City Marathon that was held on Sunday in Vienna City.
“Every year the winners come to see me in the Vienna Hofburg. This is always nice. So this time I decided that I have to go and see the start,” said Alexander Van der Bellen.

Muteti and Chepkirui will be coming back for next year’s Vienna City Marathon on 23rd April 2023. “It is my aim to win the race for a third time in a row just as Nancy Kiprop did. And when I come back next year I want to run sub 2:18 here,” said Chepkirui,
The 27 year-old smashed her Iten training partner, Nancy Kiprop record on Sunday with a time of 2:20.59.
“Nancy gave me some advice before Sunday’s race and she already congratulated me on my course record and said she is proud of me,” Chepkirui said.
Kiprop took the Vienna honors in 2017 to 2019 and clocked a course record of 2:22.12 three years ago.
Chepkirui led 1-2-3 Kenyan podium finish as she was followed by Ruth Chebitok who crossed the line in second place with a life time best of 2:20.59 with Sheila Jerotich closing the podium three finishes in a time of 2:23.01.
