Kenya’s Charles Ndiema smashed the race course record at the 28th edition of the Graz Marathon that was held on Sunday (10) in Graz, Austria.
Ndiema pulled away from his competitors at the 33km mark, his compatriots Onesmus Kiplagat, Bernard Kipchirchir and Joel Melly, and then ran confidently to the finish.
The rainy weather weather conditions could not prevent Ndiema from smashing the previous record of 2:11.10 that had been set by Edwin Kirwa in 2018.
The 28 year-old set a new course record when he cut the tape in 2:10.47.
I am really happy with this time. I knew that I could run fast so fast,” Said Ndiema.
Ndiema led 1-2-3 Kenyan podium finish as he was followed by Melly who crossed the line three minutes later with Kiplagat closing the three first finishes in 2:16.47.
The best Austrian was Georg Tisch who finished in fifth place in 2:24.47.
In the women’s race, Enikö Molnar from Hungary took the pole position in 2:53.55.
