Kenya’s Brimin Misoi will head back to defend his title at the 40th edition of the Mainova Frankfurt Marathon slated for October 29, 2023 in Mainova, Germany.
The 34 year-old who won this race with a life time best of 2:06.11, started his season this year with a thirteen place finish at the Tokyo marathon where he ran his second fastest time of 2:07.36.
Misoi who is the double winner of Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon will partner with his compatriot whom he defeated last year Samwel Mailu. Mailu who is currently in a great shape after breaking the Vienna Marathon course record in April where he also ran a personal best of 2:05.08 which ranks him number ten in the world marathon ranking this year.
The two Kenyans will have to get past the 2014 World Half Marathon bronze medallist Guye Idemo Adola from Ethiopia who comes to this race with the fastest time on paper of 2:03.46 that he got on his debut at the 2017 Berlin Marathon where he took the silver medal. Adole also holds the season best of 2:07:35 that he got in April at the Schneider Electric Marathon de Paris where he took second place.
The three will be chasing the race course record of 2:03.42 that was set by former world record holder Wilson Kipsang in 2011.
“I’m expecting a first-class race at our jubilee edition,” said the race director Jo Schindler.
The Mainova Frankfurt Marathon is on course to maintain its reputation for strong performances among the elite and high numbers for the mass field with around 25,000 runners expected to take part on the last Sunday in October. The event holds an Elite Road Race Label, awarded by World Athletics, the sport’s governing body.
