Kenya’s Brigid Jelimo Kabergei won the 2nd edition of the Monza Run Half Marathon that was held on Sunday (10) in Monza Park, Italy.
The 25 year-old improved on her previous personal best of 1:12.46 that she got last month at Zagreb Half Marathon, where she finished in second place.
Kabergei who was running her fourth marathon cut the tape in a new personal of 1:12.00 and she was followed by Maiwenn Le Corre from France who crossed the finish with over four minutes later.
France’s Elena Colella finished in third in 1:23.15.
Many athletes have chosen to wear the peace flag sticker found in the race pack, including some Russian runners. Many those who have waved the flags with the colors of the rainbow, it is explained in a note. The word peace was pronounced several times throughout the day.
The president of Uisp Firenze, Marco Ceccantini, recalled this from the beginning: “Sport unites and does not divide. We are here to run and have fun but our thoughts are for the victims of the war. Florence is here to reaffirm the message that sport is against war and for peace”.
