Ethiopia’s long distance legend, Kenenisa Bekele will headline the 43rd edition of the TCS Amsterdam Marathon that will be held on Sunday, October 21, 2018 in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
The 36 year-old is the current world record and Olympic record holder in both the 5000m and 10000m events.
Bekele ran his personal best at the Berlin Marathon in 2016. In recent years (2017 and 2018) he ran the London marathon. Bekele is one of the world leaders of the NN Running Team.
“Kenenisa Bekele is an absolute world leader, as an organization we are incredibly proud that we have Bekele at the start on Sunday 21 October. Bekele has deliberately opted for Amsterdam, he knows the quality of the organization, he knows and feels that the athlete is always at the center “, says race director Cees Pronk.
He will battle with the course record holder Lawrence Cherono from Kenya who posted an impressive time of 2:05.09 in last year’s edition.
