Kenya’s Beatrice Cheserek lived to the expectations of the race organisers as she took the top honors at the 30th edition of the Santa Pola Half Marathon held on Sunday (22) in Santa Pola, Spain.
The reinging Cardiff Half Marathon champion, pulled away from the leading groupthat included Cynthia Jepkosgei from Kenya and Ethiopian Aminet Ahmed at the 8km mark, surging ahead with her two pacers and running the remaining part alone to cut the tape in a time of 1:07.49.
Cheserek who came to this race with the fastest time on paper of 1:06.48 that she got at the Wizz Air Cardiff Half Marathon last year, led a 1-2 podium Kenyan finish as she was followed a distant later by Jepkosgei who crossed the finish line in 1:08.41 with Ahmed closing the podium three finishes in 1:09.01.
The 21 year-old Nancy Jepleting from Kenya who was making her debut over the distance, finished in fourth in a personal best of 1:09.18.
