World Cross Country champion Beatrice Chebet sealed a second successive diamond league win when she ran away with the women’s 5000m race title at the Stockholm Diamond League held on Sunday (02) in Stockholm, Sweden.
The 23 year-old who is also the reigning World 5000m silver medallist, beat a strong deep field that included World Indoor 3000m champion, Lemlem Hailu from Ethiopia, Ugandan National 5000m record holder Sarah Chelengat and Australian National 5000m record holder, Jessica Hull.
Chebet who is the defending women 5000m champion took the top honors in a season best time of 14:36.52 and was followed by Hailu who crossed the line in second in 14:38.06 with Medina Elsa sealing the top three podium finishes in a time of 14:40.02.
Chelangat who had shin and knee injuries that kept her away from the track for most of 2021, came home in fourth with Oceanian 1500 m record holder, Hull finishing in fifth in respective times of 14:40.88 and 14:44.24
