The Asian Junior Athletics Championships scheduled to be held from June 16 to 19 in Korea has been postponed up to 2023 by Asian Athletics Association.
The Vice President of Sri Lanka Athletics (SLA) G.L.S Perera said Asian Athletic Association already informed this to SLA and it’s President General Dahlan Al Hamad stated in an official letter that keeping safe and healthy during these difficult times is important and also on the request of Korea Association of Athletics Federation and further consideration they have decided to postpone the U20 (junior) Asian championship to 2023 keeping in mind the prevailing Covid situation.
Even though the Asian Junior Athletics Championship has been postponed, the Sri Lanka Athletics has decided to conduct the country’s junior selection trials which is scheduled to be held from February 10 – 12. Earlier 10th Asian Indoor Athletic Championship which was scheduled to be held from February 11 to 13 in Kazakhstan also postponed to 2023.
2022 is a busy year with athletes as they have a good chance to take part in more International events. The 18th world Athletic championship will be held from July 15 to 24 in Eugene, Oregon, USA while the 19th world junior athletic championship will be held from August 2 to 7 in Cali, Colombia. The junior athletes have a good chance before world events as SLA already plans to conduct the South Asian Junior Athletic Championship from May 19-20 at Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo.
