Tokyo Olympic 10,000m champion, Selemon Barega will clash for the second time with the Tokyo Olympics 3000m silver medallist Lemecha Girma at the ORLEN Copernicus Cup which is a World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold series, that will be held on Tuesday (22) in Torun, Poland.
These two elite athletes are expected to light fireworks as fast times is expected from them considering how they battled in Lievin last week while chasing Daniel Komen’s long-standing world indoor record of 7:24.90.
Getnet Wale has also been added to this rich field of elite athletes. Wale missed Komen’s record by just 0.08 setting the second-fastest time in history with a time of 7:24.98 in Liévin last year.
Wale, Barega and Girma respectively moved to second, third and sixth on the world indoor all-time list at that time thanks to their performances that year.
In lievin last Thursday, Girma piped Barega to the line in 7:30.54 to 7:30.66 while Wale was forced to settle in third with a time of 7:30.88.
Kenya’s Jacob Krop will be aiming to improve his personal best of 7:34.67 that he set on Thursaday of last week in his indoor debut.
The big question that everyone is asking, can Barega, Girma and Wale touch Komen’s record or It’s a tall order?
