Kenya’s Albert Korir will be heading back to New York City to defend his NYCC marathon title at the 50th edition of the race that will be held on November 06, 2022 in New York.
The 27 year-old last year thrashed a strong deep elite field that included Kenenisa Bekele, Abdi Nageeye and the defending champion Geoffrey Kamworor, two years after finishing second.
“I’m very happy to return to New York after my victory last year, but I also feel a great responsibility to defend my title,” Korir said in a statement. “It was surprising to me that the list of athletes who have returned to defend their title has very few names on it, but I am training very hard to join them. It is never easy, but I have the benefit of experience.”
The race organisers have assembled a deep field that include the 2021 runner-up Mohamed El Aaraby of Morocco, along with 2020 London Marathon winner Shura Kitata of Ethiopia and Evans Chebet from Kenya.
