Kenya’s Agnes Keino destroyed the course record at the 7th edition of the Buriram marathon held on Sunday (22) in Buriram, Thailand.
The 35 year-old who is the reigning Generali München Marathon champion, came to this race with the fastest time on paper of 2:23.26, lived to the race expectations as she smashed the old course record of 2:37.52 that was set three years ago by Kenya’s Sharon Cherop with almost ten minutes when she cut the cut the tape in a new course record of 2:28.08.
Keino led a 1-2 Kenyan podium finish as she was closely followed by Lucy Karimi who also finished under the old course in a time of 2:28.36.
Ethiopia’s Aberu Mekuria Zenebe closed the podium three finishes in 2:29.07.
Kenya’s Jane Jelagat Seurey who was the second fastest athlete on the start list and Ethiopia’s Zerfie Limeneh Tesema finished in fourth and fifth place in a time of 2:29.39 and 2:31.51 respectively.
All the top seven athletes ran under the old course record.
