Kenya’s Agnes Jebet Ngetich shattered the women-only 10km world record at the Brasov Trunsylvania International 10k, held on Sunday (10) in Brasov, Romania.
Ngetich erased the old course record of 30:01 that was set by the Agnes Tirop in Herzogenaurach in 2021 with a new women-only world of 29:24 which places her as the third fastest woman in the behind Ethiopia’s Yalemzerf Yehualaw who holds two fastest time of 29:14 and 29:19.
Ngetich went through 5km mark in 14:25 which betters Senbere Teferi’s previous women-only world record time of 14:29.
The 22 year-old was followed a distant later by her compatriot Catherine Relin who came home in second in 30:14 with Ugandan Joy Cheptoyek closing the podium three places in 30:34.
Kenya’s Diana Cherotich and Viola Chepngeno came in fourth and fifth place in respective time of 31:17 and 31:39.
