World Under 18 400m silver medalist, Mary Moraa gifted Kenya her first 800m medal since 2015 as she elevated her status in the World ranking when she banged her first major medal at the World Athletics Championships in Oregon.
The race was won by Olympic champion, Athing Mu from United States who ran a world leading time of 1:56.30.
This is also the first gold medal for the United States in the women’s 800m, although it was their seventh medal in the event.
Great Britain’s Keely Hodgkinson came home in second, winning her Country the second silver medal in the event, after Kelly Holmes in 2003. It was also the fourth medal for Great Britain in the women’s 800m and their first since Jenny Meadows’ bronze in 2009.
Moraa closed the podium three finishes in a new personal best of 1:56.71.
The three medalists bettered the 2022 world leader (Mu at 1:57.01), moving them to 1-2-3 on the 2022 world list.
