Reigning Lagos marathon champion Abraham Kiptum won the 8th edition of Safaricom Iten 10km road race that was held on Saturday (25) in Elgeyo Marakwet County.
The 29 year-old who has been nursing the injury that he sustained during Kabarak half marathon, battled for the top honors with Daniel Kipchumba and Samuel Chebolei but experience managed to hold the two enabling him to cut the tape in 28:39.0.
The two times Lagos Marathon winner was followed by Chebolei who crossed the finish line in 29:08.1 with Chebolei closing the firt three finishes in 29:09.9.
Kiptum who also ran away with the 2018 Daegu marathon course record in 2:06.29 will be hoping to defend his title next year.
“My aim is to lower both course records and enter history books. Today’s race was competitive and running on home ground, it was great to win despite my back and shoulder injury,” said Kiptum.
