Ethiopian-born American long-distance runner, Abbabiya Simbassa, broke the course record at the Flanigan’s Rockin’ Rib Run 10K held on Sunday (19) in Miami, Florida.
The 30 year-old who competes under the Under Armour stable, shattered the old course record of 28:23 that was set last year by David Bett from the International Elite T.C stable run by Keith Olson, with a new course record of 27:55 beating the old course by nearly half a minute.
Simbassa was followed by Reuben Mosip from Kenya in 28:06 with his compatriot James Ngandu closing the podium three finishes in 28:10.
Kenya’s Josphat Too and Panuel Mkungo, who won the Istanbul Marathon two weeks ago finished in fourth and fifth place in respective time of 28:13 and 28:16.
The defending champion Bett finished a distant sixth with his fellow Kenyan Peter Mwaniki Njeru coming home in seventh in 28:36 and 28:38 respectively.
