Athletics Kenya has made changes for the upcoming trials for the World Cross Country Championships that will be held in Bathurst, Australia due to the Visa timelines that have been set by the Australian Embassy.
This change has necessitated Athletics Kenya to change the dates of the previous Cross-Country Calendar affecting the 5th leg of AK Cross Country weekend meet that was earlier scheduled to take place on Saturday 10th December 2022, has been moved to Saturday 3rd December 2022 at the same venue.
The trials which will take place on Saturday 10th December 2022 at Kenya Prisons Training Collage in Ruiru, will be strictly on invitation basis.
The AK will pick athletes from all the five cross country weekend meetings and those that have taken part in international cross countries competitions.
The trials will include the events below:
- 2Km Senior Women
- 2Km Senior Men
- 6km U20 Women
- 8Km U20 Men
- 10Km Senior Women
- 10Km Senior Men
The selection criteria which has been laid down by AK will feature the 6km U20 women, 8km U20 men and 10km senior women and men, the first 6 athletes to cross the finish line, will be automatically selected. The 7th and 8th athletes will be selected as reserves.
The 2km senior women and men events will be used to select the mixed relay team. The first 3 athletes to cross the finish line for both women and men will be automatically selected. The 4th and 5th athletes will be selected as reserves.
All athletes invited for trials are advised to come with their passports (Travel Documents) and a covid 19 vaccination certificate.
The dates for the County, Regional and National Cross-Country Championships will remain unchanged
