Ethiopia’s Alemu Megertu destroyed the course record at the 37th edition of the Seville Marathon that was held on Sunday (20) in Seville, Spain.
Megertu took charge of the race at the 30km mark and she surged with her focus on the 2020 course record of 2:23.13 that had been set by Juliet Chekwel from Uganda in 2020.
Megertu increased her pace at the 38km and went ahead to destroy the previous record by almost five minutes. The Rome Marathon Course record holder cut the tape in a new course record of 2:18.51. The Ethiopian now has two marathon course records under her name.
Megertu led a 1-2-3 Ethiopian podium finish as she was followed Sisay Gola who crossed the line in 2:20.50 with Yeshi Kalayu Chekole closing the podium first three finishes in 2:21.17.
