Kenya’s Rebbeca Tanui smashed the race course record at the 44th edition of the San Sebastian marathon held on Sunday (28) in San Sebastian, Spain.
Tanui who was making her marathon debut beat a strong deep elite field that included race favorites, Ethiopia’s Gulume Tollesa Chala and her compatriots Gladys Chepkurui and Euliter Jepchirchir Tanui.
Tanui who came as the under dog suprised many when she took charge of the race at the 35km and surged ahead to erase the old course record of 2:24.17 that was set in 2018 by Kenyan born Israeli Lonah Salpeter with a new course record and personal best of 2:23.08.
She was followed a distant later by Euliter Jepchirchir Tanui who crossed the finish line in 2:28.18.
