Shocking details have emerged of another Kenyan athlete, Edith Muthoni of being murdered by her boy friend at Kianjege village in Kerugoya, Kirinyaga County.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives arrested Kennedy on Tuesday night after he savagely attacked the 27-year-old, inflicting a deep cut on the back of her head. According to Kerugoya referral hospital manager Norman Gitari, the deceased was brought to the hospital in critical condition, by a well-wisher.
Medical staff at the hospital had tried in vain to save her life, prompting the hospital manager to inform the DCI officers based at Kerugoya police station. “Investigations were immediately instituted leading to the arrest of the deceased’s boyfriend as the key suspect into the murder most foul.
The suspect is currently in custody assisting detectives with investigations, before being arraigned in court to answer to his crimes.
According to Coach Solomon Wachira of Shima Athletics Club based in Ndaragwa, Nyonjoro farm, he has confirmed that the said athlete used to be in her camp but she later moved to Kirinyaga where she has been currently based.
“I know Muthoni very well and she had an issue with the boyfriend who stabbed her severally and what I know is she was taken to hospital for treatment. I have known Muthoni as a very hardworking young girl who used to participate in short races; 200, 400m and now she had moved to 800m,” said Kamau.
Muthoni has participated in eight 400m and three 200m races in Nairobi during National trials.
