Kenya’s Ruth Chepngetich beat world class athletes on her debut in marathon when she broke the course record at the 39th edition of the Istanbul Marathon that will be held on Sunday (12) in Istanbul, Turkey.
Chepngetich beat the race favorite Visiline Jepkesho from Kenya and Ethiopia’s Mulu Seboka who came with the fastest time of 2:21.37 and 2:21.56 respectively.
Chepngetich broke the course record of 2:27.27 that was set by Ashu Kasim Rabo from Ethiopia in 2010 when she slashed off five minutes from the previous record to set a new course record of 2:22.36.
Jepkesho followed her closely crossing the line four seconds later with Letebrhan Haylay from Ethiopia closing the podium three in 2:25.40.
Seboka came a distant fourth seven minutes later with Sharon Cherop Jemutai who was running her first marathon after the maternity leave coming in fifth in 2:39.34.
