Ethiopia’s Tadelech Bekele will battle for honors with Kenya’s Caroline Rotich at the 42nd edition of the TCS Amsterdam Marathon that will be held on Sunday (15) in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
Bekele has clocked the fastest time of 2:22:23 that she got this year at the Praha Marathon and has been consistent in her running time, having previously clocked times of 2:23:02 and 2:22:51 when finishing fourth in Berlin in 2014 and seventh in Dubai in 2015.
But on the other hand Rotich is a highly experienced and very strong contender in this race coming with a PB of 2:23.22 that she got at the 2012 Chicago Marathon where was finished fifth placed.
The 33-year-old Kenyan has been running the classic distance for more than ten years and has won the Boston, Prague, Las Vegas and Sao Paulo marathons. Her fastest time is 2:23.22, which she ran in Chicago in 2012.
Bekele and Rotich will target to lower the course record of 2:21:08 set in 2012 by Meseret Hailu of Ethiopia.
Megertu Ifa has run in Amsterdam before: she finished fourth in 2014. Her performance has progressed in recent years. She completed last year’s Dubai Marathon in 2:29:45 and nearly clocked the same time in Hamburg this spring, where she finished second in 2:29.47
A talented athlete on the track, Viola Kibiwot finished fourth in the 5,000 metres at the World Championships on two occasions.
The 34 year-old road racing career got off to a great start with a 31:11 she got when she won the Corrida Pedestre International de Houilles 10 km. this year she made her marathon debut at the Hamburg Marathon where she got a PB of 2:30.22.
