Emmanuel Kipsang will defend his title at the Iten Cross Country Championships which is the fourth leg of Athletics Kenya Cross Country meeting that will be held at St. Patrick high School on Saturday (9) in Iten.
The World 5000m Military Games bronze medalist will be targeting to defend his crown as he sets his eyes to be selected for the Africa Cross country championships that will be held in Algeria.
The 26 year-old took 26:57.2 last year when he defended his title. The Laikipia Air Base man said he uses the Iten meeting as part of his build up for other races ahead of him.
“I will gauge myself on how to compete for other races both locally and internationally after the Iten race, this race will be my build up for other races,” said Kipsang.
North Rift Athletics Kenya public Relations Officer Boniface Tiren also confirmed that the former world junior 800m runner Emmaculate Jebet, who took the women title last year, will also be in the contention to defend her title.
Jebet won the women’s 10km category in a crowded field cutting the tape in 31:08.7.
“We are expecting all gold medalists across the world to take part and we anticipate having a lot of athletes coming to participate here in Iten as it’s the hub of great runners,” said Tiren.
