France’s Abraham Kiprotich won the 39th edition of the Istanbul Marathon that will be held on Sunday (12) in Istanbul, Turkey.
Kiprotich who switched his citizenship in 2010 from Kenyan to France came to this race with a personal best of 2:08.33 that he got at the 2013 Daegu Marathon, held off Kenyan runners who had dominated the start list to beat them when he cut the tape in 2:11.22.
The 32 year-old who in 2013 was stripped off his Istanbul Marathon title after he tested positive for erythropoietin (EPO) and was banned for two years making his comeback late 2015.
Kenya’s Jacob Kendagor came to this race s the fastest runner with a personal of 2:07.33 that he got early this year at the Seoul Marathon came second five seconds later with Ethiopian Bazu Worku closing the podium three in 2:11.39.
Douglas Chebii and Kenneth Mungara who was second at this year Gold Coast Airport Marathon both crossed the finish line in 2:12.01 and 2:12.44 respectively.
