The 2011 world 5000m silver medallist champion Sylvia Jebiwot Kibet will be out in full swing at the 4th edition of the Saitama International Marathon that will be held on December 9, 2010 in Saitama, Japan.
The 34 year-old comes to this race with a season best of 2:30.27 that she got when she finished fourth at the Hamburg marathon early this year.
The Kapchorwa (Nandi County) born athlete has many accolades on her shoulder, 2008 Beijing bronze medalist, 2007 All-Africa Games bronze and the 2010 Commonwealth Games silver medal.
Kibet comes to this race with a personal best of 2:26.16 that she got at the 2015 Hamburg marathon.
The Kenyan will not find an easy ride as she has been lined up with some of the best Ethiopian elite athletes that are led by Worknesh Debele who comes to this race with a personal and season best of 2:19.53 that she got early this year at Dubai Marathon where she finished in fourth place.
Another tantalizing runner to face off with the two is former Ethiopian now trading as a Bahrain, the 28 year-old Shitaye Habtegebrel, who is also the 2010 Asian Games bronze medalist and the 2011 Pan Arab Games silver medallist.
Habtegebrel comes to this race fresh from winning Hamburg Marathon with a personal best of 2:24.51. Last year’s Saitama runner-up Dalila Gosa has also confirmed and wants to improve from her last year’s position as she carries on her shoulder a personal best of 2:26.46.
The race organisers have a put up a strong elite team to try and lower the race course record of 2:23.18 that was set in 2016 by Flomena Cheyech from Kenya.
Australia’s Celia Sullohern closes the sub-2:30 contingent of the invited elite list.
Japan will be led by Hiroko Yoshitomi who will start with a personal best of 2:30.16 that she got when she finished in 6th place at the Tokyo Marathon early this year.
