Reigning Stockhom Marathon champion Lawi Kiptui will be the star to watch at the 8th edition of the Rennes Marathon that will be held on Sunday (28) in Rennes, France.
The 25 year-old will be looking to write his name in the race history books as he looks to battle with defending champion Josphat Kiprono, who will also be on the start line-up.
Kiprono won the last year’s edition in 2:09.45 but Kiptui is not shaken by the time and has his main focus on the top podium finish.
“I know the defending champion is well prepared but am also in great shape and ready to face him and square it out come Sunday,” Said Kiptui.
Kiptui who will be heading to France on Thursday (tomorrow) carries with him a personal best of 2:13.21 that he got in Lyon in 2017 with his mind set on setting a personal best at the race.
Kiptui who was speaking exclusively to athletics News said, “Am well prepared and am just targeting sub 2:08 which will also be my personal best. If the weather patterns allows them am in for it”.
The past four editions have been dominated by Kenyans with Felix Kiprotich holding the course record with 2:08.05 that he set in 2014.
