Geoffrey Birgen and Peninah Kigen smashed the course record of the Techcombank Ho Chi Minh City International Marathon which is in its 2nd edition and was held on Sunday (2) in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
Birgen led a 1-2-3 Kenyan podium finish as he cut the tape in a new course record of 2:20.18 erasing the previous record of 2:28.47 that was set by Peter Keter from Kenya in last year’s edition.
The 34 year-old was followed by Josphat Kiptanui Too who pulled 2:23.45 with third place going to last year’s winner Keter who closed the podium three places in 2:26.52.
In the women’s race again Kenya took all the first three podium places as Kigen thrashed the race course record of 3:02.35 that was set by Jane Rotich also from Kenya and setting a new course record of 2:47.03.
Susan Jepkoech took the second place in 2:53.08 with Immaculate Chemutai sealing the podium in 2:55.11.
