Kenya’s Monica Jepkoech smashed the course record at the 13th edition of the EDP Porto Marathon that was held on Sunday (5) in Porto,Portugal.
The 34 year-old who came with a personal best of 2:27:26 thatn she got at the 2015 Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon where she finished in fourth place.
Jepkoech smashed the course record by 2 minutes 25 seconds to also set her new personal which she gained by her personal efforts after running the last 7km alone and cutting the tape in 2:26.58 erasing the course record of 2:29.13 that was set last year by fellow country-mate Loice Kiptoo.
Kiptoo was followed by Salome Rocha of Portugal who came to this race with a personal best of 2:27.08 that she got early this year at Praha Marathon but she found the going tougher than expected when she crossed the line in second place 4 minutes.
Ethiopians Chaltu Bedo Negashu who was debuting and Amare Wanganesh Mekasha who came with a PB of 2:42.41 from the 2014 Ciudad de Mexico finished in third and fourth with 2:43.41 and 2:46.08 respectively.
