Ethiopia’s Ashete Dido smashed the Spanish all-comers record at the 38th edition of the Valencia Marathon that was held on Sunday (2) in Valencia, Spain.
The 30 year-old came to this race a personal and season best of 2:23.27 that she got early this year in Paris battled for the top honors with Kenya’s Lydia Cheromei who carried a personal best of 2:21.30 that she got at the 2012 Dubai Marathon.
Dido outkicked Cheromei who on paper was the race favorite at the 38kilometre point and held on to cut the tape in a personal best and crushing the old race course record of 2:24.48 that was set by Valary Jameli Aiyabei in 2016 with a new Spanish all comers of 2:21.14.
Cheromei was forced to settle in second place when she crossed the line in 2:22.11 with Tinbit Gidey Weldegebriel also from Ethiopia improving on her pb with almost five minutes closing the first three podium finishes in a new personal best of 2:23.37.
