Bahrain’s Eunice Kirwa thrashed the course record at the 36th edition of the Macao Galaxy Entertainment International Marathon that was held on Sunday (3) in Macau, China.
Kirwa who is fresh from defending her title at the Nagoya Women Marathon where she set a new course record that included also her season and personal best of 2:21.17.
The Olympic marathon silver medallist continued with great performance this season when she broke the course record of 2:31.48 that was set in 2011 by Ethiopian Tsega Gelaw Reta. The 32 year-old Kenyan who switched her allegiance to Bahrain cut the tape in a new course record of 2:29.12.
“Am more than blessed to have won this race and breaking the course record which I had not planned to do,” Kirwa said.
She was followed four minutes later by Shafar Oleksandra from Ukraine who crossed the line in 2:33.06.
Kenyan Rodah Jepkorir Tanui who came with a PBt of 2:36.03 that she got when she finished fourth at the Rock ‘n’ Roll Madrid Marathon closed the podium three when she crossed the line in a new season best of 2:33.41.
12,000 runners from 53 countries and regions take part in the Macao Galaxy Entertainment International Marathon.
