Kenya’s Felix Kirwa smashed the course record at the 36th edition of the Macao Galaxy Entertainment International Marathon that was held on Sunday (3) in Macau, China.
Kirwa came to this race with a personal best of 2:06.13 that he got early this year when he finished second at the Eindhoven Marathon.
Kirwa chopped off three minutes from the previous record of 2:13.43 that was set by Julius Kiplimo Maisei in 2013.
“I came targeting to win the race but am grateful that I have also broken the course record,” Kirwa said to the press after taking the crown.
The Kapsabet born athlete led a 1-2-3 Kenyan podium finish and was followed four minutes later by 2017 Riga Marathon winner Joseph Kyengo Munywoki who came with a PB of 2:10.21 that he got at the Dresden Marathon. The 25 year-old crossed the line in 2:33.06.
Henry Kiprotich Sang carried a personal best of 2:17.35 to his name closed the podium three when he crossed the line in 2:13.48.
12,000 runners from 53 countries and regions take part in the Macao Galaxy Entertainment International Marathon.
