Kenya’s Samuel Kimutai Kiptum won the 19th edition of the Global Ports Maratona di Ravenna that was held on Sunday (12) in Ravenna, Italy.
Kiptum who came with a personal best of 2:13.44 that he got at the 2016 Trieste Marathon in Italy could not lower his previous time when he ran alone from the 32km mark to cut the tape in 2:21.20.
The 27 year-old led a 1-2 Kenyan finish with Samule Njeru Karani who carried a personal best of 2:16.51.0 to his name that he got at the Zurich Marathon this year crossed the line thirteen minutes later.
The 31 year-old who was running in his second marathon later told the press that he had sharp pains in his abdomen making it hard for him to chase Kiptum.
“AM grateful to God for enabling me win today’s race though I was targeting a personal but weather wasn’t favourable for that time,” said Kiptum.
Hungarian Elöd Zsigmond came with a personal best of 2:34.21 that he got at the 2014 Budapest marathon closed the top three podium finish in a time of 2:35.08.
