STEVE EDWARDS is now just one race away from setting a new world record for running 800 official marathon races in the fastest average finish time.
After his 799th at Bournemouth, where he ran a time 3:19.14, Steve said, “I’m so pleased to get this one done, especially with another sub 3:20 which didn’t seem likely at halfway on what is a demanding course.
“I got a niggle in my hamstring just after the eighth mile which got quite debilitating at times. The last few miles were murder and I was very happy to see the finish line,”
If all goes to plan, Steve will become the first person in the world to average sub-3:20.00 for 800 official marathons in Birmingham on Sunday.
