Kenya’s Mary Keitany won the 37th edition of the Simply Health Great North City Games that was held on Sunday (10) in Newcastle, England.
Keitany who is the world recorder holder in a women-only marathon, having won the 2017 London Marathon in a time of 2:17:01 held on the lead and was closely followed by Caroline Kipkirui who paced for her at the London marathon.
The 35 year-old passed passed the 5k mark with a split of 16.01 and at 10k with 31.35 with the defending champion reducing her time with +0.14.
The Baringo County born led 1-5 position Kenyan finish as she cut the tape in 1:05.59 and was followed by Cheruiyot of 1:07.45 with Kipkirui closing the top three podium finish in 1:09.51
