Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon won the women’s 1500m at the ongoing World Championships at London Stadium.
Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands the fastest woman in the world this year over the distance kicked early but Kipyegon held on crossing the line in 4.02.59. United States Jennifer Simpson was the surprise silver medalist of the night as she pulled through from fourth place to claim the second spot with a time of 4:02.76.
South Africa’s World and Olympic 800m champion Caster Semenya who was running in the 1500m for the very first time closed the podium finish in 4:02.90.
This will be the third silverware on her collection having won the commonwealth title, Rio Olympic and now becoming the first Kenyan to win 1500m gold at world championships.
