Kenya’s Mary Moraa amd Sharon Chebet qualified for the was the girl’s 400m girls at the end of round at the World U18 Championships that is ongoing at the Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani, Nairobi.
Moraa emerged victorious in heat two her compatriot Chebet was placed second in the fourth heat to book semifinals slots.
Moraa took the leading position from the 300m point and she never looked back till the 100m mark where Brazilian Giovana Rosalia Dos Santos tried to overtake her but the Kenyan maintain her stamina to cross the line with a personal best of 54.36 with Dos Santos coming second with 54.29 and third place going to Katarina Sekulic of Serbia coming in third with 54.86.
“Before I came to run, I had fear but a single prayer saved me, taking the race with confidence and winning it. The win has boosted my confidence and I promise Kenyans that the first 100m gold will come from me,” said Moraa who will be taking on 200m on Saturday.
In heat 4 Czech Republic’s Barbora Malikova took the top honors when she beat Jebet of Kenya to second place with 55:56 and 55:91, with third place going to Laura Kaufmann of Germany.
Kenyans hopes at these championships are to bring a medal in every event they are taking part in.
