The sole Kenyan girl’s and boy’s 100m runners Beatrice Onyango and Elijah Onkware Matayo were Kenya’s first casualty of the World Under 18 Athletics Championships by being eliminated.
Onyango bowed out in the first round by clocking 12.50 by finishing seventh but was eliminated with her head high by achieving her personal best and 22nd best overall time.
In the boy’s 100m, Elijah Onkware Matayo was eliminated after finishing in sixth place by clocking 10.78 to be placed 15th overall of the semifinals dash event.
Matayo started off well by finishing third in heat five by clocking 10.78 to post his personal and season best times behind Jamaica’s Wilson Tyreke in 10.60.
Matayo’s time placed him as the 14th overall top finisher which was led by South Africa’s Mlenga Retshidisitswe in 10.48.
