World 1500m champion Genzebe Dibaba will run at Torun indoor race that will be held on February 10th in Torun city in northwrn Poland.
Dibaba who turns 26 years old in February will attempt to break her own world record of 1500m that she set in 2014 at the Karlsrushe (Europahalle) of 3:55.17.
The event director Krysztof Wolsztynski said, “to break the 1500m indoor world is difficult but am told Genzebe is in great shape and she will get our support so as she can beat the record herself”.
The organisers have lined up a star studded field for the race including 2014 world indoor silver medalist Axumawit Embaye, 2014 European 5000m champion Mearaf Bahta and European U23 Cross country champion Sofia Ennaoui.
Surprise on the list is Genzebe’s younger sister Anna Dibaba. The 20 year old Anna comes to the race with a personal best of 4:19.20 in 1500m she got in Barcelona in 2016.
World champion Maryna Arzamasova and European 1500m champion Angelika Cichocka will face Olympic finalist Joanna Jozwik in the women’s race, while USA’s Eric Sowinski and Ireland’s Mark English will take on two-time European champion Adam Kszczot and European indoor champion Marcin Lewandowski in the men’s event.
